Why wax?
When you wax you are destroying the hair follicle. With consistent waxing every 4-6 weeks and proper at-home care, the follicle will grow back smaller, and the hair will come back finer, causing you less discomfort every time! Usually people see no hair growth for 2 weeks between waxes.
Some benefits to waxing:
Slower, finer hair growth
Can minimize ingrown hairs
Results last longer than shaving
No razor bumps
How should I prepare for my wax?
We need a minimum of 14 days of growth for best results. The week leading up to your appointment, exfoliate the area you will be getting waxed at least twice. This should be done about 1-2 days prior to your appointment. Make sure you’re drinking lots of water! a hydrated hair follicle comes out so much easier than a dehydrated one. Avoid caffeine for a few hours leading up to your wax as it makes the skin more sensitive and can lead to bruising or lifting. Taking ibuprofen or tylenol an hour before can help ease the discomfort. You got this and I’ll talk you through every step of the way!
What should I expect after my first wax?
It takes an average of 2-3 waxes every 4-5 weeks with no shaving in between before you get a super clean wax. In the beginning there may be some strays left behind which is completely normal. When you shave, you cut the hair shaft off at different lengths. Since the hair grows in 3 different stages, it takes regular, consistent waxing to get them all on the same growth cycle. Want the cleanest wax sooner? The longer you let your hair grow prior to that first wax, the better your results will be.
I’m on medication. Can I still get waxed?
The following medications increase the rate at which your skin exfoliates, so waxing can potentially lift the skin resulting in scabbing. For most topical medications, we suggest discontinuing use about 7 days prior to your wax. You cannot wax while on Accutane and for a minimum of 6 months after coming off of Accutane.
If you take any of the following medications, please discontinue use at least 7 days prior to your facial or body waxing appointment.
Tretinoin, Retin A or Retinol, Isotretinoin, Accutane, differin, ect.
Can I get waxed while on my period?
Absolutely. Just be aware that you may be more sensitive during that time of the month. Please schedule accordingly. If you do come in while on your period for a Brazilian Wax, please wear a tampon or menstrual cup!
Can I get waxed if I’m pregnant?
Yes! It is perfectly safe to wax while you are pregnant. We will help make you as comfortable as possible during your service. Some may experience heightened pain during pregnancy, but it’s completely normal. Consult with your physician if you are unsure if it’s right for you.
Will my wax cost more if I have a bigger body?
Absolutely not. All shapes + sizes are treated equally at Waxology.
Do you wax men?
All genders are welcome to be waxed! At the moment, we only offer brazilian and bikini waxing services for those with vulvas. Feel free to view our service list to see all of our options!
